My family, along with my brother-in-law and a friend’s families, spent last weekend skiing at Wisp, next to Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland. The house we rented had plenty of bedrooms, allowing the kids to have both sleeping privacy and more daytime playrooms then they could have imagined. We were staying right at the base of the mountain, just a five minute walk from the lifts…the only way to winter vacation!
I’m not much for skiing, myself, so I took the family van and toured the local area on Saturday afternoon. I found the greatest bookstore, in a small shopping center, right on Rte 219…just a moment from the ski area. The McHenry Bookstore is brand new, and every book I examined was discounted 10 percent…I’d venture to say that all books were likely discounted.The owner is friendly and very excited about her shop. Coffee’s available, and there are comfy reading chairs. It is a welcome respite for a bibliophile. The next time you’re in the area of Wisp Mountain, call the bookstore for directions, 301.387.9840, and tell ‘em that I sent you…you’ll find the store at 24586 Garrett Hwy (Rte 219).
